WATER SOFTENERS

All water softeners are based on the technique of ion exchange whereby the hardness (calcium) is replaced by sodium (salt), this creates soft water. Hard water or limescale is an unwelcome side affect that can be costly to industry. The formation of limescale on heat exchangers and pipework can increase heating bills dramatically.

In order to meet the water softening needs of industry, where water usage is likely to be high, Calmag have designed a range of commerical water softeners, CalSimplex and CalDuplex.

CalSimplex is comprised of a resin vessel, a brine tank and a Simplex Valve. The water passes through the resin vessel and the calcium and magnesium particles are exchanged with sodium. The treated water then passes into the water supply. Any scaled up pipework will begin to descale over time. Once the resin vessel is exhausted, the Simplex valve will then switch the softener into regeneration mode and removes the collected calcium and magnesium particles from the resin bed. It does this by drawing in a brine solution from the brine tank. Sodium particles are then exchanged with the calcium and magnesium particles, which are then flushed to drain. The unit is then ready to soften water again.

CalDuplex is comprised of two resin vessels, a brine tank and a Duplex Valve. The only difference  is that CalDuplex has two resin vessels which means they can supply constantly softened water. When one vessel becomes exhausted the other takes over. Once the exhausted vessel completes its regeneration process, both vessels continue to soften your water.

If you are unsure what size softener you require please fill out our site survey form.

The benefits of fitting a water softener are…

1. Prolonged life of your heating system.

2. Reduced maintenance and downtime costs.

3. Lower soap/detergent/chemical usage.

4. After several months you will find that your hot water system will gradually become more efficient. Eventually you should be able to lower the water temperature and make considerable savings over the year. For more information on the estimated costs of limescale build up please click here.

CalSimplex and CalDuplex will require a constant supply of salt to operate correctly. We recommend the use of tablet or block salt. For more information on salt please click here.

Calmag recommend that there is always a separate water supply maintained for providing potable drinking water.
