Contaminants in drinking water

There are a number of contaminants that may be contained in water.

These include:
Micro-organisms such as bacteria, parasites and viruses. Most bacteria and parasites are killed by chlorine in treatment stations, but viruses are much more resistant and difficult to eliminate.
Toxic minerals, such as aluminium, arsenic, asbestos, barium, chromium, fluorine and nitrates as well as cadmium, lead and mercury could all be in tap water. These are usually found in very small quantities, but pollution caused by mining and industry may lead to an increase of these minerals in the water.
Organic substances such as animal waste, fertilisers, pesticides, oil, dyes and paints may be present in municipal water supplies.
Radioactive substances (uranium and radioactive gases) in small amounts are found even in the cleanest water sources.
Residuals of chemicals used to treat water are also present.

Stage 1-5 Micron Sediment Filter
With a five micron rating, it is effective in removing dirt, rust and sand particles. This will catch all the large particles in order to protect the larger filters and membrane.

Change every 6 months
Stage 2 - Granular Activated Carbon Filter
Reduction of Chlorine, MtBE, Trihalomethanes, Pesticides, Herbicides, Benzene, Radon, and countless Volatile Organic Chemicals. It provides enhanced reduction of taste, odour and colour.

Change every 6 months
Stage 3 - Granular Activated Carbon Filter
Further reduces all Sediments down to the 1 Micron rating. This is the size of most bacteria’s including Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

Change every 6 months.
Stage 4 - TFC - 50 GPD Reverse Osmosis Membrane
A thin film composite (TFC) top quality membrane that processes up to 50 gallons of pure water per day. It removes the following hard water contaminants that may be present in your water: lead, cooper, barium, chromium, mercury, sodium, cadmium, fluoride, nitrate, and selenium.
Change every year, depending on feed water quality and pre-filter maintenance.

Stage 5 - Post Carbon Filter
This Post Carbon Filter removes objectionable tastes and odours to enhance the quality of your drinking water.

Change every 6 months.
Feed water must meet the following criteria for proper RO function:
Temperature must be less than 40 degrees Celsius
Iron content no more than 0.1 ppm
* pH not less than 3 and not more than 11
* TDS under 1000 ppm recommended (contact us if you have high TDS for all other options)
Please ask for our RO testing equipment to check iron content, pH and TDS levels.
