CalCTU is a calcium treatment unit designed to remove calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate from your water supply. CalCTU is an effective calcium treatment system for all potable water applications where the uses of sodium-based systems (for example water softeners) are inappropriate. Applications include coffee machines, combination steam ovens, baking ovens with water injection, hot water boilers for beverage making, drinks vending machines and ice makers.

CalCTU will improve the water quality in several important ways including assuring food grade standards of potability and the removal of scum which can occur in tea and other vended products. CalCTU will also remove heavy metals such as lead, copper, mercury and chlorine. CalCTU improves the taste, colour and odour of the treated water.

CalCTU will ensure the prevention of scale on metal surfaces, reduce maintenance and revenue costs through equipment breakdown and will also increase equipment life.

Canister Exchange
As CTU’s cannot be regenerated on site, exhausted canisters need to be exchanged for fresh canisters at predetermined intervals. Frequency of changeover depends on the water hardness and volume of water used. Calmag provide a free water testing service to establish the capacity of each unit on site and obtain water meter readings where required, to establish the appropriate exchange interval. Exchange can be undertaken by our Service Department using water hardness and unit capacity tracking of exchange requirements.

Additional Information
Single units are normally dedicated to a single item of equipment and are made in standard sizes.
Special models are available to suit specific needs. However, due to the weight of units when wet and the practicalities of exchange, Calmag does not recommend canisters larger than 30 litres. Duplex, Triplex and Multiplex systems suit treatment of water in large volumes or when used by more than one piece of equipment. Any number of canisters can be linked together to provide the required quantity of treated water. Units can be fitted with countdown meters set in accordance with water hardness and linked to an audible warning to indicate when the units are approaching exhaustion. All equipment to be treated by this system should be served by a plastic/alkathene ring main.
